Your Demons Don't Define You - You Do

Do you ever wake up and feel down?

Sometimes, I'll have a great start to my day and as it teeters on - my demons start to take the wheel.

Slowly, one by one the ghosts of my past make their entrance and I start re-writing a story I made up about a situation from the past or present. The stories aren't always true but sometimes you start believing what your mind tells you.

In moments like this - I don't always reach into my self-care bag of tricks, instead, I believe that I'm not good enough. That something is inherently wrong with me. That I could be more, do more - If I had discipline. The list goes on.

Sometimes no matter how hard I try, I can't shake the feeling of despair. Logically I'm grateful but sometimes, just sometimes my mind doesn't want to me to trust logic.

What, I've learned is that I can't fight moments like those.

I can accept it and try to be kind to myself.

Often I end up in tears. It helps.

It's as if all we need is a good cry to loosen up those hard feelings.

Crying has become one of my favorite self-care tools.

Speaking of self-care - I have a post on guidance around self-care gifts for yourself or loved ones.

I also have a post readily available on 40 ideas to help you build a self-care routine.

You'd think 6 years of therapy would have helped me put an end to it but no, because therapy doesn't make things go away - it helps you get better at handling them (albeit you have a good therapist - I've had my share of questionable therapists).

The demons will come. Sometimes they'll stay awhile.

Don't let them tell you, who you are.

Be well.

Amor Fati. The love of one's fate. One day as I was aimlessly scrolling TikTok I stumbled across a video about Amor Fati and I just knew I had to share this with you. While it may sound difficult, embracing things as they are can lead to overall better mental health. You won't master it overnight, but it's a practice worth starting. Watch this...
